Biedermeier Writing Secretary

Northern Germany
Birch, mahogany
Biedermeier around 1835

Dimensions: H x W x D: 163 x 111 x 56 cm

Description:
Birch veneered secretary standing on solid block feet. The flanking columns and the key plates in the shape of coats of arms are ebonised and contrast beautifully with the light wood.
Above and below the columns, the body of the furniture runs in a slight curve.

The structure of the piece of furniture consists of three drawers at the bottom, the writing flap above and another drawer above. The top is finished off with a slightly overhanging profile moulding and a double-stepped attachment that holds another, narrower drawer.

The interior of the secretary consists of a central compartment with a letter tray and a mirror on the back. To the left and right of the open compartment are a half-column and three stacked drawers, also veneered in birch.
Above the compartment are three drawers veneered in mahogany, each with maple thread inlays. The middle drawer is finely marquetry with acanthus vines as well as a cross, doves, anchor and heart - the symbols of faith, peace, hope and love.
In the lower section of the interior, there is a wide, visually three-divided drawer with stairs and masonry marquetry.

Cleanly crafted piece of furniture with beautiful contrasts and a great interior.

Condition:
Refurbished condition ready for living. All drawers run smoothly, the writing flap is stable. The locks work.

Price: This secretary is already sold. I offer similar objects for approx. 5500,-€ to 6500,-€.
