Description:
Excellent Louis XV chest of drawers, cambered on three sides.
At the front we see four drawers in three rows, all fielded in the same manner by opposite grain directions and veneered diagonally in the field. The base is pulled down centrally.
The handles and keyhole fittings of fire-gilt bronze contrast splendidly with the restrained wood. Further fittings were dispensed with, as was contrasting marquetry.
The curved pilaster strips form the feet in the extension at the front and lead gently over to the diamond-shaped veneered sides.
The loosely laid red marble top forms the upper finish.
Neatly crafted piece of furniture in pleasing proportions.
Condition:
Refinished condition. Shrinkage cracks in the drawer bottoms have been closed, the fittings have been cleaned and the shellac polish has been refreshed.
