Josefinian top cupboard

Austria
Walnut u.a.
Classicism around 1780

Dimensions: H x W x D: 182 x 117 x 60 cm

Description:
Two-piece top furniture, both parts -typically Austrian- standing on their own legs.
The corps are made of softwood and veneered in walnut, burl wood and other precious woods. Both pieces of furniture have doors hung on Fitschen hinges and a plain interior.
The design of the furniture is absolutely typical of classicism, which in Austria is also known as the Josephine style.

Pointed square legs support the two-door lower corpus. The front is dominated by geometric marquetry and a wide parquetry beat moulding that follows the shape of the central risalite. The bevelled pilaster strips lead over to the sides of the furniture, which are also fielded.
The edge of the top plate is made of solid wood. Veneers arranged in a star shape form the surface.

The top of the piece of furniture jumps back and has the same basic shape with a shortened depth.
The surface is dominated by two faces facing each other, each in a round cartouche.
The upper finish is also formed by massive end-grain pieces, which in this case are profiled several times and allow the cornice to protrude discreetly.

Price: This piece of furniture has already been sold. Comparable pieces are priced at around 8000,-€ to 10000,-€.
