In the lower section we find a drawer in the base. Above this there are two further drawers with diamond-shaped ebony key escutcheons.
Above this is the fold-down writing surface, which is polished black on the inside.
The interior consists of a total of nine drawers veneered in elm burl. Or below the drawers, there is one open compartment flanked by two solid columns and another framed in round arches.
A brass reading lamp was installed in the upper compartment by the previous owner. The lamp could easily be removed if not desired.
There is another wide drawer above the writing section.

This secretary is absolutely gorgeous both opened and closed.
Opened it shows the simple elegance of the Biedermeier era with its black framed drawers and its beautiful proportions.
Closed, it shows the great art of veneering of the time. The choice of wood was perfect, the grain pattern looks like a work of art. Wood can be so beautiful!
The shellac polish gives the wood depth and a natural warm hue.

Good to know:
The classic standing secretary, also called a writing cabinet, with a writing top that folds down to the front, only became really popular in the Biedermeier era. In the preceding 18th century, secretaries were mostly built with cylinder locks or slanted flaps.
In the Biedermeier era, strict symmetry in the room was important. And so there was often a cabinet made as a counterpart to the secretary. A so-called dazzler, the front design of which looked like a secretary but was not one. For this purpose, the writing cabinet was much better suited than cylinder or slanted-flap secretaries.

Condition:
Restored condition, ready to live in. Drawers and locks function perfectly. The writing desk is stable.
Classic shellac hand polish.

Price: This piece of furniture is no longer available. Secretaries in comparable quality and condition are priced between 5000,-€ and 6000,-€.
