Shaped by life

What could be more beautiful than old, original leather?

Leather has always had a high value in furniture making.
Especially in English and French furniture, we find it on the writing surfaces of tables and secretaries or covering small shelves on dressing tables and gaming tables.

The (mostly English) sheepskin was available in various colourings and with elaborate embossing and hallmarks such as palmettes, rosettes, wave frieze, egg bar and meander band.

Over the years of use, the leather usually wears more than the wood. Moreover, leather is a perishable material simply because of its nature.
An old leather lives from its change. Minor quirks, discolourations or soiling are absolutely not a bad thing, on the contrary - it is intentional and worth preserving. We call it patina.

Dry and brittle leather can be made "grippy" again with care products. If possible: refresh instead of replace!

However, there are also cases where the leather has been so badly damaged that it is no longer possible to refurbish and preserve it. Talk to us, we will find the right solution for you!

Furniture restoration with patina preservation

Whether chest of drawers, table, cupboard or chair, if antique furniture could talk, it would probably have a lot to tell. Stories of the centuries. It is precisely these stories that the patina "tells". Every scratch, every quirk, every discolouration is witness to its own little episode....

But what is exactly the right degree of signs of age and use? What is worth preserving? Where does patina end and decay begin?

Sustainable living with antique furniture!

A carpenter, a carver and a blacksmith helped to make this cabinet over 220 years ago - craftsmen from the Trier region.
Perhaps after 100 years the cabinet was restored, made pretty and sold on. In this way, the cabinet could have secured another job after 100 years.

Then, as now, only natural materials were and are used in the restoration. That is pure sustainability!
