Remove glaze and make wood lighter
The cabinet presented here was made of solid oak in the Wilhelminian period around 1890.
The old glaze became brittle, cracked and unattractive over the years due to sunlight and environmental influences.
We achieved the beautiful warm colour by priming with shellac and then applying a wax sealant.
Of course, not only the surface was treated in the course of the restoration, but the piece of furniture was generally brought into a technically flawless condition suitable for everyday use.
