Fold

A rebate is a rectangular edge cut running in the longitudinal direction.

You will find a rebate on almost every room door at home. The rebate ensures that less light and draughts come through the door.

In antiques we also find rebates as a constructive element of a frame corner joint. In this way, the rabbet provides an overlap of two pieces of wood and a larger gluing surface.

In the adjacent photo, the rabbet on the lower edge of the drawer ensures that the chest of drawers is dust-proof.
