Stollenbauweise

By the term studded construction we mean a type of furniture construction in which the four corner posts serve as the basic building block of the entire piece of furniture.
The legs of this type of furniture are not placed underneath, but extend over the entire height of the furniture and thus also serve as a connecting element of the sides, or the front and the back.

We find the stud construction mainly in chairs, but also in chests of drawers and other box furniture.

In the photo you can see a cupboard in stud construction. The four studs are connected by solid, partly curved crossbars. On the sides of the cupboard, the studs together with the crossbars form the frame for the loosely inserted panels.
