Arabesque

Mostly found on carvings, bronze fittings, inlays or paintings, this is a flat leaf and tendril work. This ornamentation originated in the Arab world and was already used on European furniture in the 16th century. The symmetrical tendril work is sweeping, intersects and often crosses animal bodies, plants and flowers.
