Parquetry is the term we use to describe veneering in geometric patterns, often made of the same wood but with different grain patterns.

In contrast to chequerboard decoration, parquetry is not composed of squares, but of rectangles or diamonds.

Antique Saxon furniture of the Baroque period is particularly famous for its parquetry.
