Ancient planetary model, so-called tellurium

This illustrative model with the sun, earth and moon stands on a heavy, cast metal base.
This planetary model can be used to illustrate the seasons, the phases of the moon, the tides and the positions of the celestial bodies during solar and lunar eclipses.

Above the rotation axis of the foot is a printed disc on which the seasons, the signs of the zodiac and the exact date can be read. In the centre of the calendar is a candle holder. The candlelight is projected onto the earth like a sunbeam via a concave mirror.

How it works:
The tellurium can be set in motion with a hand crank. This causes the earth to rotate around itself, the moon around the earth and the moon and earth around the sun. In addition, the tilt of the earth changes in the course of a "year", i.e. one revolution around the sun. The four seasons can be explained from this tilt of the earth.

It is impressive how precisely the light of the candle is directed through the mirror onto the globe. This can be seen clearly in the attached video.

Condition: The mechanism has been completely disassembled. All wheels and drives have been cleaned and greased. The device works perfectly.
