Description:
Magnificent mirror in baroque style from around 1860 with original faceted mirror glass.
The frame is carved out of wood and gilded. Mounted on top and at the bottom are ornate decorations of carved wood and stucco. Depicted are C curves, rocailles, cornucopia and rose petals.
Condition:
Good, as-found condition. Completely without chipping or flaking. Original back panel. Original mirror glass, slightly tarnished in a few places.
Points of interest:
Since the 17th century, mirror production, starting from the Venetian Murano, spread area-wide also in Germany. Here, both the casting process and the blown production of glass plates from a cut cylinder are known. Each time, either the glass flow is spread out on a smooth metal or stone plate or the cut cylinder wall is laid out hot.
