Walnut
dated: 1853
Dimensions: H x W x D: 166 x 104 x 50 cm
Description:
Very narrow secretary from the late Biedermeier period. The dimensions are measured at the widest points. The corpus has a width of 96 cm and a depth of 46 cm.
Writing furniture standing on plinth plate with three drawers below, writing flap above and another wide drawer above below the cornice.
The three lower drawers and the writing flap are slightly recessed and framed and staged by a surrounding cross-veneered circular profile.
Exciting continuous grain pattern on the front of the furniture, the sides are designed a bit more calm.
If we open the writing flap, we see a beautifully veneered writing surface in fruitwood (presumably applewood).
The interior is veneered in birdseye maple. It consists of a large open compartment and seven drawers of different sizes. Two of the drawers are made as open trays with boxes behind.
The arrangement of the interior has a French influence and suggests an origin near the border.
With the interior disassembled, we found a date: 1853 as well as a signature that is difficult to read: Konrad Wintermantel. The other text blocks are illegible, probably the place of origin is written here among other things. (see photos)
If you are able to decipher the text, I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice.
Condition:
Very good restored condition. The shellac polish "fires up" the grain of the walnut veneer. The wood has an incredible "depth".
