Description:
Three-bay chest of drawers with an exquisitely beautiful mirrored veneer pattern of grained ash.
Profiled pilaster strips, block feet following the shape of the carcase.
The striking crossbars contribute significantly to the design of the furniture front.
Curved, overhanging top plate.
Points of interest:
We refer to the transitional phase to historicism as late Biedermeier or Louis-Philippe. Towards the middle of the 19th century, the strict cubist lines of Biedermeier were supplemented by more playful forms and ultimately replaced altogether.
This chest of drawers is a fine example of this period, in which the basic forms of the Biedermeier era are still preserved, the veneer pattern continues to contribute significantly to the design of the piece of furniture, but the first curves and playfulness have already found their way into furniture making.
Condition:
Restored condition ready for living, shellac polish. Fittings completed.
