Small Biedermeier Half Cupboard in Cherry

Saxony
Cherry tree
Biedermeier around 1835

Dimensions: H x W x D: 82 x 68 x 37 cm

Description:
Fancy delicate Biedermeier half cupboard, so-called pillar or trumeau cupboard.

At the front we see a large door with a segmental arch and a lock in the middle, suspended by hinges. From the inside, two massive ridge strips prevent the wood from being thrown. Above the door is a wide drawer.
The continuous and mirrored cherry wood grain pattern is discreetly interrupted by maple thread inlays. The same design is also found on the top plate.
The profiled and diagonally veneered pilaster strips, which play a decisive role in the design of the piece of furniture, are very elaborately crafted and of beautiful quality.

Worth knowing:
Pillar cabinets like this one were a popular type of furniture in Biedermeier home decor. Designed to be shallow in depth and width, they were the ideal furniture for narrow wall spaces, for example between two windows. In combination with a wall mirror above it, often designed in a matching manner, the term trumeau cabinet became established.

Condition:
Authentic, restored condition ready for living.
