Burl birch
Biedermeier around 1830
Dimensions: H x W x D: 93 x 97 x 51 cm
Description:
Three-bay writing chest with exceptional burl birch veneer pattern.
The piece of furniture stands on massive block feet. Solid columns with ebonised bases and capitals.
The front of the top drawer can be folded down. This creates a writing surface - the chest of drawers can also be used as a secretary. This is what we call a writing chest or a chest of drawers secretary.
When the writing drawer is closed, we can see the veneer of Karelian burl birch, which has a strong grain but still appears calm. Fine geometric thread inlays of ebony provide a structure to the surfaces.
The upper finish is formed by the Schinkel roof typical of the region.
Inlaid black keyhole frames.
Original locks, one original and two replica keys.
Condition:
Old restored condition, shellac hand polish. Slight signs of use on the top plate. All drawers run cleanly and smoothly. The locks work perfectly.
