Ash
Biedermeier around 1830
Dimensions: H x W x D: 155 x 104 x 54 cm
Description:
Beautiful secretary - also known as a pyramid secretary due to the downward widening shape.
The light and warm wood of the ash is laid in perfect symmetry. This so-called mirroring of the wood can be seen from the centre axis to the right and left, but also from the secretary flap downwards and upwards.
The symmetry creates a harmonious overall picture and makes the wild grain appear calm and coherent.
Ebonised key plates, pull knobs and columns contrast beautifully with the light wood.
The structure of the piece of furniture consists of three drawers at the bottom, the writing flap above and another wide drawer at the top. The large drawers in the lower section are absolutely typical of the time and region, the bottom drawer is deliberately presented and wider.
Inside the secretary, we see five drawers on the left and right, one above the other, veneered in burl wood with discreet, dark thread inlays.
The centre is an open compartment with letter trays, a round arched drawer at the top and a stepped drawer at the bottom that can be opened by a secret mechanism.
Perfect quality craftsmanship, harmonious overall appearance, good proportions.
