Antique Biedermeier Cabinet in Birch and Cherry

Central Germany
Birch, cherry, burr walnut
Biedermeier around 1835

Dimensions: H x W x D: 168 x 105 x 51 cm

Description:
Simple and calm body veneered in birch with inset ebony key escutcheons. The protruding head profile and the stair-like construction from the base level to the lower drawer loosen up the overall appearance of the closed piece of furniture.

The interior of the secretary presents itself harmoniously and in absolute tranquillity.
In the centre, lined by ebonised half-columns, is an open compartment with two shelves. Above and below this are one (indicated) row of drawers each with fronts made of walnut root.
Particularly beautiful and in perfect symmetry, the two large doors veneered in cherry provide the exceptionally coherent character of the interior.
When we open the doors, they turn out to be larger than we first suspected, because the topmost part visually belongs to the row of drawers above. Behind the left-hand door, there is a large compartment divided by a shelf, and behind the right-hand door, there are four drawers, some of which are divided into compartments.

There is an old owner's label on the back wall. There it says: This cabinet belongs to - Justizrath family (family name difficult to read - (Heilingbrunner?)) - Bamberg - [...]

Condition:
Restored and hand-polished with shellac. Functional, stable and suitable for everyday use.
