The catalogue accompanies an exhibition of scagliola works and documents the Bianco Bianchi Collection with works from the 17th to the 19th century. The focus is on the scagliola technique, an artisanal method for imitating and freely shaping stone surfaces, especially marble.
The publication is conceived as an exhibition catalogue and combines academic contributions with the presentation of the exhibited objects. It categorises the works in terms of art history and places them in the context of Italian art and craft tradition.
The exhibition took place in Florence (Via Bufalini 6) from 18 October 2012 to 6 January 2013. It was curated by Silvia Botticelli and Modestino Romagnolo.
The catalogue was published by Edizioni Polistampa (Florence, 2012). Texts were written by Modestino Romagnolo and Silvia Botticelli.
The exhibition was supported by the Regione Toscana, the Provincia di Firenze, the Comune di Firenze and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, among others. It was organised by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and the Associazione Osservatorio dei Mestieri d'Arte (OmA).
