Edith Mannoni -Mobilier Lyonnais

Mobilier lyonnais.
Paris: Éditions Massin, 1995.
ISBN 2-7072-0276-2.

This work is dedicated to the regional furniture style of Lyon and places it in the context of French provincial furniture. It emphasises the characteristic features of Lyon furniture, in particular its generous proportions, powerful construction and rich, sculptural carved ornamentation. Typical features include expansive seating furniture, large cabinets with elaborately crafted doors and solid-looking chests of drawers with deep drawers in relief.

Particular attention is paid to the use of walnut wood with a dense, finely pronounced structure, which forms the basis for the deeply cut profiles and "strong" mouldings. Furniture with stone tops - such as buffets with marble tops - is also described as a characteristic appearance. Overall, the book conveys the image of a representative, yet functionally sophisticated type of furniture characterised by solidity, quality craftsmanship and a distinctive regional design language.
