ISBN: 3-205-98576-1

The catalogue was produced on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts in the Geymüllerschlössel. The exhibition took place from 10 May to 24 November 1996 and from 1 March to 27 April 1997.
The publication focuses on the training of cabinetmakers in Vienna between around 1790 and 1845, systematically analysing practice sheets, furniture drawings and finished pieces of furniture on the basis of archive material from the Vienna Carpenters' Guild and the Academy of Fine Arts. The aim is to reconstruct the design, craftsmanship and typological development of Viennese furniture in the first half of the 19th century.
