Ottomeyer, Hans: Zopf- und Biedermeiermöbel. Catalogue of the furniture collection of the Munich City Museum
In collaboration with Eva Langenstein
Munich: Prestel, 1991
ISBN 3-7913-1082-8

This scientific collection catalogue documents the Munich City Museum's important holdings of furniture from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In a systematic form, the work offers an art-historically sound analysis of Zopf, Empire and Biedermeier furniture and sheds light on their construction, design and stylistic-historical classification.

Introductory essays address topics such as the Biedermeier discourse, the Munich cabinetmakers, stylistic transitions from Classicism to Biedermeier and furniture deliveries to the Bavarian residences around 1800. The extensive catalogue section covers furniture types from writing furniture to sets, mirrors and children's furniture. Photographs and technical descriptions complement the respective object analyses.
