With 137 clocks from the 18th and 19th centuries, the Parnassia Collection is one of the most important private collections of figurative pendulums in the world. The first volume of this two-part monograph focuses on bronze sculpture in Paris during the Consulate and Empire.

Jean-Dominique Augarde - a proven specialist in French pendulums and bronze makers - analyses the figurative clock creations in their historical and artistic context. The volume examines themes such as the Fall of Troy, Gods and Heroes, Allegories, Civilisation of the Nile and mythological and allegorical animal figures. Further chapters deal with urban and architectural subjects as well as classical vase motifs.

This first volume is part of a two-volume cassette. The second volume(Les Pendules "au Noir") deals with dark patinated clocks of the Empire style.
