Biedermeier top secretary

Brandenburg
Birch
Biedermeier around 1830

Dimensions: H x W x D: 191 x 112 x 59 cm

Description:
Exceptional top secretary in birch veneered on softwood.
Two-part piece of furniture standing on block feet.

In the base we find a regionally typical curved drawer.
Above it, flanked by two set half-columns, are two further drawers, one of them with rectangular segmentation, the writing flap and a head drawer with handles.

Opening the writing flap reveals the rich interior. Below are three stepped drawers in birch root. Above that, on the left and right, we see four stacked drawers each in mahogany veneer. The upper end of the interior is formed by a wide drawer that is visually divided into three parts. The pull knobs made of bone contrast beautifully with the dark wood.
In the centre is an open compartment with a mirrored back and diamond-shaped parquetry on the bottom. The sides of the compartment each consist of three round arches. The figures in the round arches give the compartment the appearance of a cloister. The central compartment is flanked by two ebonised solid columns.
The writing desk itself is paneled in the classicist manner with light and dark contrasting woods and a surrounding fillet band.

The upper end of the lower section is formed by a dentil moulding and the Schinkel gable above it.

The single-door top has two columns each on the left and right. Here, too, a flat triangular gable forms the upper finish.

Condition:
Restored condition ready for living. Shellac hand polish. All drawers run cleanly, the locks function perfectly.

Price: This piece of furniture is no longer available. Comparable secretaries cost between 7000,-€ and 9000,-€.
