Mahogany

Dimensions: H x W x D: 121 x 64 x 57 cm
Description:
Rare antique collection cabinet veneered in Cuba mahogany with a very beautiful grain pattern on the front.
The small one-door cabinet stands on a flat skirting board, the door is divided by a frame with a double round arch finial. The recessed brass key guide blends harmoniously into the overall design.
Inside the cabinet there are 14 slide-in display cabinets, some of different sizes, all extremely finely crafted and with framed glass covers to protect against dust. The wonderful old panes are slightly wavy and most of them probably date from the time the cabinet was made.
Originally, the cabinet may have been used to store and organise domestic collections. It may have been used to store manuscripts, collections of folios or postcards, but minerals, exotic plants or entomological specimens were also popular collecting areas at the time.
With its height of 121 cm, the cabinet is perfect for placing the removed display case on top of the piece of furniture and viewing or sorting the objects on display.
Condition:
Refurbished condition with a shellac hand polish. The lock was probably replaced in an older restoration.
If the drawers are to be fitted with compartments for your personal use, we will be happy to make them according to your individual requirements.
Price: This piece of furniture has already been sold. Objects of comparable age and condition are priced at around €4,000 to €5,000.
