Antique foosball table

France
Beech
1930s

Dimensions: H x W x D: 90 x 75 x 138 cm

Description:
Rare antique foosball table from the 1930's. Characteristic of the time is the functionally simple design with subtle decorative milling on the legs and body.

The table is made of solid beech wood. The playing field is made of linoleum, the corners are slightly raised to prevent the ball from sticking.
The iron rods are hollow and can be telescopically pushed into each other so that they do not protrude from the table on the opposite side.
The players are cast from iron, one of the figures was carved from wood.
There are 5 original cork balls. The balls are released by inserting a coin. The embossing "Bté SGDG" stands for "Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" ("Patented without government guarantee") - a form of patent protection used in France until 1968.

Condition:
The condition of the table as found was absolutely desolate (see the last three enclosed photos). Presumably, the good piece had spent decades in a "Sleeping Beauty sleep" in a French barn, unloved and forgotten.
In the course of the restoration, the wood was stripped of varnish, rust was removed from the goals and rods, the players were retouched in colour and the playing field was cleaned. The construction was stabilised, the handles were re-turned and the surface was re-oiled. In short, the foosball table was restored to its original condition and is now absolutely playable and suitable for everyday use again.
