Biedermeier display case

Northern Germany
Birch
Biedermeier around 1835

Dimensions: H x W x D: 209 x 99 x 53 cm

Description:
Very slim Biedermeier top-mounted furniture with a three-drawer chest of drawers and a four-door top.

The flamed birch veneer is typical of northern Germany, as is the recessed segmentation on the drawer fronts and the lower drawer, which is set off like a staircase by a solid crosspiece. The feet follow the shape of the furniture front. Discreetly attached leg plates accentuate the key guides.
A flat angled gable provides a harmonious upper finish for both the base and the top.

The two closed doors, which act as a kind of mezzanine between the chest of drawers and the display cabinet section, are unusual.
Producing large panes of glass was a costly affair at the time the piece of furniture was created. The display cabinet doors are therefore divided into three smaller glass surfaces by glazing bars. Books, crockery or showcase objects were displayed on the shelves behind the glazing bars. The original, old panes of slightly wavy glass are still fitted.

Condition:
Restored, ready-to-live-in condition with a shellac hand polish. The drawers run cleanly and smoothly, the locks work. The interior of the upper part has been repainted.
The patina, the old traces of use and wear have not been sanded out, but deliberately preserved and conserved.

Price: This piece of furniture has already been sold. I offer similar objects for about 4000,-€ to 5000,-€.
