Chest of drawers with fire-gilt fittings

France
Mahogany
Empire around 1815

Dimensions with cover plate: H x W x D: 87 x 129 x 58 cm

Description:
Three-bay chest of drawers standing on massive block feet.
Slightly protruding plinth, also protruding marble top.

To the left and right of the drawers we see a torch, the shaft of which is made of solid mahogany. The lower end of the torch stick forms a border with an owl and tendril work of finely cast, chiselled and fire-gilded bronze.
The upper border is of equally fine bronze quality. The interplay of bright and matt gilding gives the flames a lively character.
The keyhole surrounds are worked as cornucopias with blossoms and palmettes.
The pull handles of the drawers are also finely chiselled and originally gilded.

The dust shelves between each drawer are evidence of the high quality of the chest.

Condition:
Restored piece of furniture ready for living and polished with shellac. Drawers and locks function perfectly.
The fire gilding of the torches and keyhole surrounds are excellently preserved.

Price: This commode has already been sold.
