Liegnitz - Workshop Josef Seiler
Oak
1920s
Dimensions: height 78 cm, diameter 110 cm - 155 cm
Description:
Quite extraordinary round dining table, solid oak and veneered.
When closed, we see a round dining table with a diameter of 110 cm. The piece of furniture has a fluted central foot that stands on an octagonal base.
Through an unusual mechanism, the table has the rare ability to increase in diameter. To do this, the frame is turned downwards via a thread. Now eight segments, which fit snugly around the table, can be turned out like a fan. The resulting ring gives the table its name: Liegnitz ring table.
The mechanism was patented by Josef Seiler in 1920. In different sizes and with varying design of the base, the table was built in small series in the 1920s.
Condition:
Originally, the table was kept in a very dark colour. In the course of restoration, the dark stain was removed and the natural oak colour is now visible. There are residues of white paint on the underside.
The turning mechanism is functional. The surface is oiled and absolutely suitable for everyday use.
The attached video shows an identical table that has already been sold. The mechanism of the table now on offer works according to exactly the same principle.
