Mahogany
around 1800
Dimensions: H x W x D: 87 x 48 x 44 cm, seat height: 48 cm
Description:
Rare pair of classicist chairs, made in Saxony around 1800 in the circle of Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann. At the front, we see the tapered square legs typical of the period and region, whose striking upper ends are emphasised by a circumferential groove and decorated with embossed sheet brass fittings in the shape of lion heads. The rear legs protrude like sabres. The frame is straight-lined.
The main focus is on the elaborately designed backrest with openwork in the form of pointed arches and reed leaves. The fittings on the backrest consist of a central medallion, from which stylised palmettes with torch finials extend, as well as two plaques attached to the corners, which were added to one of the two chairs.
The chairs have been reupholstered and covered with a narrow striped fabric from the JAB collection.
Condition:
Restored, shellac polished, newly upholstered.
Price: 3000,- € for the pair.
