Description:
Exceptionally small Louis XVI chest of drawers with writing drawer and fine marquetry.
Three-tier piece of furniture standing on pointed legs. The fronts of the drawers have a wide rim of dark mahogany wood. The surfaces framed by fillet bands and thread inlays are veneered in diagonally positioned plum wood. The slanted pilaster strips feature trompe l'oeil fluting in light and dark contrasting woods.
The chest of drawers is visually divided into an upper and a lower section by a surrounding frieze and the resulting division of the sides and pilaster strips.
If we open the top drawer, a small secretary compartment with a leather-covered writing surface is revealed in front of the four-tiered interior.
The upper end is formed by a loosely laid grey and white veined marble top.
