Büttner / Weber-Woelk - David Roentgen - Möbelkunst und Marketing im 18. Jahrhundert

David Roentgen (1743-1807) is probably the most important German ebenist.
Around 1770, he officially took over his father's workshop in Neuwied on the Rhine and expanded it into a company with almost modern production and marketing strategies that supplied the European royal houses from Paris to St. Petersburg. Even his contemporaries referred to his company as a "fabrique" and to him personally as an "industrial man".

The articles published here by renowned experts were presented on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of David Roentgen's death in the accompanying programme of extensive exhibitions in Berlin and Neuwied. Art and furniture historians, historians and restorers present the latest findings and discoveries on the clientele, stylistic and technical development, marketing and the social environment of the manufactory in four richly illustrated chapters.
