Hojer / Ottomeyer - Residenz München I - Die französischen Möbel des 18. Jahrhunderts

The first volume of the three-volume series on the furniture of the Munich Residence deals with the important collection of 18th century French furniture. The focus is on magnificent furniture in the Rococo and Louis Seize styles, which came to the Residence under Elector Max III Joseph and in particular through Duchess Maria Anna and later Wittelsbachs.

The scholarly survey is systematically organised according to art-historical, stylistic and provenance-related criteria. In addition to individual descriptions, the volume offers an introduction to the origins of the collection, its historical roots in the courtly context and its significance in the context of European furniture imports.

The work represents the first comprehensive documentation of French furniture in the Residenz and marks the beginning of a fundamental reworking of the furniture furnishings of Bavarian palaces in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Edited by Gerhard Hojer and Hans Ottomeyer.
