The Munich Residence is home to a unique collection of historical furniture that is virtually unrivalled in terms of rank and significance. A large-scale research endeavour has been dedicated to the presentation of this most valuable German furniture collection.
Following the first volume on French furniture from the 18th century, this is the second volume on German furniture from the Renaissance, through the High Baroque to the end of the Rococo period. Spanning two centuries of courtly furniture art, a total of 205 pieces of furniture are presented in 86 catalogue numbers, examined with regard to their provenance and function in the context of the flats and their art-historical significance is acknowledged.
New photographs and a wealth of detailed photographs turn the masterpieces of furniture art into a culinary experience and illustrate even the most complicated technical aspects of furniture. Numerous pieces of furniture are published for the first time. Valuable historical photographs of the furniture in their original room contexts round off the documentation. Together with the first volume on the French furniture of the 18th century, this standard work makes the historical furnishings of an important electoral residence accessible.
