This bilingual reference work (Italian/English) is dedicated to the stylistic and typological analysis of Italian furniture art of the 17th and 18th centuries. The author Lucien Zinutti offers a systematic presentation of regional characteristics of furniture design and places these in an art and cultural-historical context.

Particular attention is paid to recognising and classifying decorative features, forms and construction methods that are characteristic of certain geographical and stylistic schools (e.g. Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism). Numerous illustrations support the style-critical analysis.

Zinutti sees furniture not only as an object of utility, but also as a testimony to the social and aesthetic ideals of past centuries - an approach that runs consistently through the entire work.
