Biedermeier chest of drawers with columns

Southern Germany
Walnut
Biedermeier around 1820

Dimensions: H x W x D: 95 x 117 x 58 cm

Description:
A four-tier piece of furniture standing on plinth feet.

We see a beautiful walnut burl pattern running across the entire front of the furniture. Emphasising the symmetry, the black accentuated ebony key plates are located in the centre.
The three lower drawers are discreetly recessed and flanked by ebonised full columns. The columns rest on the risalit-like projecting feet at the bottom and support the single-layered entablature at the top.
The top panel, set off by a blackened moulding, forms the upper end. The strict symmetry is also applied to the top in the form of four veneer leaves mirrored against each other.

Worth knowing:
The piece of furniture presented here is a stylistically pure example of Biedermeier furniture design in the Upper Rhine region. The choice of wood, walnut on softwood, is typical for the whole of southern Germany. The four-panelled structure, the columns and the panel overhang with underlying moulding are entirely in keeping with the taste from Basel to Bingen.

Condition:
Ready to use, suitable for everyday use and restored while preserving the patina with an obligatory shellac hand polish. The drawers run cleanly and smoothly, the original locks work.
