Southern Germany (Franconia)
Cherry tree
Biedermeier around 1825
Dimensions: H x W x D: 92 x 94 x 39 cm
Description:
Antique sideboard or half cupboard from the southern German Biedermeier period around 1825.
A piece of furniture standing on pedestalled square feet with two doors flanked by half-columns at the bottom and a head drawer above.
The beautiful grain of the cherry wood is neatly mirrored and ensures a strict symmetry on the front, sides and top.
Behind the doors are two large open compartments, which would have been used to store plates, bowls or glasses. Unlike a chest of drawers, the sideboard, is therefore also suitable for storing bulky and standing objects. The drawer was probably used to store cutlery or table linen.
There is a stamp "P. Freudensprung - Kolonialwaren - Bamberg Memmelsdorferstr. 18" on the back of the drawer. At this point, protected from sunlight, the ink has been well preserved.
Condition: Refurbished and suitable for everyday use.
