Antique Louis XVI chest of drawers with marquetry

West Germany
Walnut a.o.
late 18th century

Dimensions: H x W x D: 82 x 106 x 51 cm

Description:
Antique chest of drawers from the German classicism.

The three-drawer corpus stands on tapered square legs.
The two lower drawers are built sans travers and without visible locks in order not to disturb the marquetry.
All three drawers are locked with only one key. The lock of the upper drawer closes downwards and activates a bolt in the middle drawer, which in turn secures the lower drawer. An interesting and extremely rare patent.

The furniture front is vertically divided into three parts. Thread inlays of light-dark contrasting woods form the frames for three fields on the upper drawer, as well as for three further fields overlapping on the two lower drawers.
The central, risalit-like projecting field is decorated by an urn vase held by a bow in a medallion.

The dominant pilaster strips stand above the corner and take up the width of the wall ends.

On the back wall there is a transport label of the "Großherzoglichen Mecklenburgischen Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn" with departure station Gnoien.

Condition: Restored and in a condition suitable for everyday use.

Price: This chest of drawers has already been sold.
