Walnut
Biedermeier around 1830
Dimensions: H x W x D: 89 x 45 x 45 cm Seat height: 48 cm
Description:
Rare set of six identical Biedermeier chairs from around 1830.
Straight, downward tapering square legs in the front, slightly flared legs in the back. The legs, as well as the artfully curved part of the backrest, are made of solid walnut, the frame and the back board are veneered in walnut. In this way, the carpenter was able to create exciting and symmetrical veneer patterns, especially at the top of the back board.
Due to its shape, which is reminiscent of a shovel, the back board helps give the chair type its name - shovel chair.
The upper edge is ebonised. The middle part of the backrest is decorated with a turned rosette.
The chairs have an incredibly beautiful and warm colour tone. Careful cleaning and restoration, while preserving the patina, has preserved this wonderful shade. Chairs of this kind are very rare to find in this fantastic condition!
Condition:
Refurbished condition, newly upholstered, newly covered.
