Small antique Biedermeier chest of drawers

Northern Germany
Ash tree
Biedermeier around 1835

Dimensions: H x W x D: 77 x 78 x 46 cm

Description:
Unusual and small Biedermeier chest of drawers with an interesting grain pattern.

Three-tier piece of furniture with striking, rounded pilaster strips set off in black. The ebonised key plates in the shape of coats of arms provide additional accents.
The grain runs in beautiful symmetry not only on the front of the cabinet, but also on the sides and the top panel.
Neither handles nor pull knobs disrupt the harmonious appearance of the wood. The drawers are opened with a key.

On the back of the chest of drawers there is an old shipping label from the Royal Railway Directorate of Hanover with departure station Nienburg an der Weser.

Worth knowing:
Ash is a coarse-pored wood and, when cut in the right way, sometimes produces very interesting veneer patterns. The large, open pores of the wood become significantly darker than the surrounding wood when the shellac is applied, so the grain is "fired up", i.e. deliberately emphasised.
The wood used for this chest of drawers is also beautifully and evenly "flamed". In addition to the vertical structures, you can also see slightly iridescent cross-grains, which create an almost net-like wood structure, especially on the top drawer. An unusual and, in my opinion, very interesting effect.

Condition:
Very good restored condition with a shellac hand polish. The feet, which were no longer present at the time of purchase, were added according to the old model.

Price: 2500,- €
