Cherry
Biedermeier around 1840

Dimensions: H x W x D: 82 x 104 x 58 cm

Description:
Three-tier chest of drawers standing on turned feet with an exceptionally beautiful grain pattern. The cherry veneer is laid symmetrically, not only on the front, but also on the sides and in a particularly beautiful pattern on the top panel.

All box corner joints, both on the drawers and between the cabinet parts, are neatly dovetailed. This can be clearly seen in the photo with the drawer pulled out and in the photo of the underside of the chest of drawers.

Worth knowing:
Alongside walnut, cherry wood is probably one of the most popular local precious woods. The reasons for this are simple: the wood has a beautiful, strong colour, very good workability and has always grown in the region. The fine-pored surface is well suited to shellac polishes.

Cherry wood is particularly popular for antiques from the early classicist and Biedermeier eras. Both as solid wood and cut into veneer, cherry was an absolute favourite. During the Biedermeier period, entire interiors were made of cherry wood.

Condition:
Restored and hand-polished with shellac.
