Dimensions: H x W x D: 158 x 114 x 56 cm
Description:
Unusually strong conical secretary from the early 19th century.
Pedestal standing on block feet with a width of 114 cm. Towards the top, the width of the corpus narrows to 93 cm.
Above the lower drawer, an ebonised moulding separates the plinth section from the rest of the furniture.
Above this, two further drawers and the secretary's flap follow.
On the outer sides, in addition to the applied women's faces in a round medallion, there is also a carrying handle on each side. Because the piece of furniture can be divided above the lowest drawer, the middle section with the handles was probably intended as an escape furniture for storing important correspondence and documents.
If we open the writing flap, we see a tidy interior veneered with burl wood and divided by blackened parts. Two bronze female figures sitting on Klismos chairs (one of them restored) underline the empire-like character of the piece of furniture.
The writing surface is covered with stippled leather.
Above the secretary's compartment is another wide drawer below the cornice and a hidden drawer in the angled roof of the head finial.
Condition:
Restored to living room condition. The sides of the piece of furniture were very light when found, the front was refinished in the course of refurbishment.
Price: This secretary is already sold. Comparable objects in age and quality are priced at around 9000,-€ to 11000,-€.
