This richly illustrated catalogue sheds light on the courtly art of furniture and decoration at the Munich Residence in its ceremonial context. The focus is on the connection between interior design, courtly representation and social life at the Bavarian court from the 16th to the early 19th century.
On display are important pieces of furniture and furnishings from the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classicism and Empire periods - many of them documented photographically for the first time outside the depot. The presentation takes place at the authentic location and pays particular attention to the function, materiality and the prestigious status of the pieces in the context of celebrations, receptions and diplomatic rituals.
The work is intended as a cultural-historical compendium of the interior design of the Munich Residence and as a documentation of one of the most important furniture and art collections in Europe.
