Frieze

A frieze is a horizontal strip with ornamental or figurative decoration.
The frieze serves as a horizontal dividing element between two pieces of furniture or as the upper or lower finish of a piece of furniture.

The meander frieze, the round arch frieze, the string of pearls, the palmette frieze or the garland frieze are particularly common on antique furniture. All these different ornaments originated in architecture.
