Plum wood u.a.
around 1800
Dimensions: approx. H x D x D: 76 x 86 x 43 cm
Description:
Antique console with rich marquetry and hinged playfield. Particularly rare is the all-over veneer in plum wood. Maple and ebony set the accents.
When closed, we see a console standing on pointed legs.
The top plate is particularly striking, with its ornate inlaid playing cards. But also the frame and the legs contribute significantly to the design of the piece of furniture. Subtle yet accentuating are, for example, the fine stripes of maple that run along all four corners of the legs from top to bottom. Fine details like this turn a simple play table into a very special piece of furniture...
The top can be turned to reveal an open compartment that is used to store dice, playing cards and the like.
When opened, we see a card table covered with felt.
Condition: Restored condition with a shellac hand polish.
