Walnut
Empire around 1820
Dimensions: H x W x D: 143 cm x 95 cm x 46 (90) cm
Description:
Piece of furniture standing on solid block feet with two doors at the bottom and the writing flap above. Flanked by two solid walnut columns.
Above the writing flap we find a head drawer. The upper end is formed by a loosely laid black marble top.
Behind the lower doors, which are closed by a sturdy bar lock, are three further drawers, one of which is lockable.
Behind the leather-covered writing flap, we see the dreamlike interior, architecturally designed with a staircase leading up to a portico. Above the portico, designed with round arches, there is a shallow drawer running across the entire width. To the right and left of the staircase are two further drawers with brass handles. If one removes the lower right-hand drawer, the staircase can be unlocked and opened by means of a secret locking mechanism.
The writing flap itself is closed with the original lock, which also locks the head drawer with its three bolts.
Condition:
Restored condition ready for living, shellac polish. Very beautiful colour tone of the walnut. Rarely beautiful elegance! Leather on the writing surface renewed.
