Classicism around 1790

Dimensions: H x W x D: 79 x 107 x 54 cm

Description:
Beautiful small chest of drawers with light base wood and dark contrasting inlay work.

The piece of furniture stands on block feet at the back and on tapered feet at the front. The feet at the front are in continuation with the half-columns on the pilasters.
The three drawers have a central risalit, marked with wide, cranked strips of ebony. The dark wood contrasts beautifully with the light, calmly grained ash.
On the sides, the chest of drawers is simply fielded with the same choice of wood.

The top plate protrudes slightly and follows the shape of the drawer fronts at the front.
A visual highlight of the piece of furniture are the beautifully arranged veneers of the top, which are laid in absolutely calm symmetry.

The chest of drawers is an excellent example of German furniture art of the late 18th century.
The calm and coherent overall impression of the chest of drawers was achieved through clear structuring and perfect symmetry. Absolutely typical of the so-called Zopfstil.

Proportion, design and choice of wood of the piece of furniture strongly suggest an origin from Braunschweig. A good literature reference for this can be found below.

Condition: Very well restored. The wood has been fanned by a shellac polish, light-dark nuances in the wood are accentuated, the wood has a nice depth.

Price: This chest of drawers is no longer available. Objects comparable in quality and condition are priced at about 4000,-€ to 5000,-€.
