Fun Facts:
A very popular table form, which attained significant importance for decorative room art, especially in the 18th century, is the gaming table in its many variations. Basically, the gaming table serves as a means for table games such as cards, dice, checkers, chess, but also backgammon, ball games and other forms of games unknown today.
These tables often have the features required for the respective type of game in the form of recesses, designated playing positions or, particularly frequently, playing fields depicted in the form of marquetry. It is striking that many tables are symmetrically four-sided, i.e. all four edges of the table allow one party to participate in the game at a time. In addition, there are often drawers in the frame for storing the pieces, figures, cards or dice.
