Description:
Interesting and decorative portal clock with date display.
The case is made of ebonised wood with brass thread inlays and stands on a base plate. The portal supported by four columns gives the clock the name "column clock" or "portal clock".
A typical feature of the period is the ring dial with a gilded bezel and a central section that is set back. This central part of the dial is what makes the clock so interesting. In the upper section, we see the open escapement with the escapement wheel set in ruby, and in the lower section, there is a sub-dial for reading the date and day of the week. We also find the signature A. HAVARD A PARIS here.
From the back we see the clean and very high quality movement with the compensation pendulum suspended on a pendulum spring. Concealed by the pendulum is a stamp in the lower part of the plate: MEDAILLE D'ARGENT VINCENTI & CIE.
Jean Vincenti ran a clockmaker's workshop in Montbeliard from 1822-1834. After his death the workshop was taken over by Albert Roux & Cie, but they continued to produce under the name Vincenti & Cie. The medal was stamped from circa 1860-1880.
Condition:
Restored condition of movement and case. The clock runs absolutely reliable and accurate with a running time of circa 14 days.
