Extraordinary top secretary

Biedermeier around 1815

Dimensions: H x W x D: 189 x 100 x 46 cm

Description:
Strictly cubist piece of furniture standing on pointed legs.

In the lower section we see two large drawers. Above them, made in a frame construction, is the writing flap. The extravagant top is strongly curved and consists of three drawers and a larger cabinet compartment. The door of the cabinet compartment is visually divided into two parts; the drawers underneath can be unlocked by means of a locking mechanism inside the cabinet.

The secretary appears very calm and is well proportioned. The ebonised key plates as well as the likewise blackened trims with brass thread inlays contrast nicely with the light yet warm shade of the maple wood.

The interior of the secretary also impresses with its fine brass inlays. The central door with rosette-shaped inlays on a mahogany base immediately catches the eye.
The door is surrounded by finely decorated pilaster strips, letter compartments and six drawers of different sizes veneered in maple root.

An exceptional secretary, absolutely rare to find in its design.

Condition:
Refurbished to a living room standard and polished with shellac. All movable elements run smoothly and cleanly, the locks work.
The back was missing at the time of purchase and was replaced with solid softwood during the restoration.
Writing furniture suitable for everyday use.

Price: Sold.
